Hey Friends! In my book, Miracle Sandwich, I advocate for special needs students and parents. One of the best ways to do that is to share information.
Many Parents are unaware that Special needs students are entitled to additional education beyond their Senior year of high school. Up until the day they turn 22 in Illinois.
You will need to check your specific state to be sure of their specific exit age, but there is additional, post high school education available for your developmentally and or learning disabled student in most states through IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).
Some schools have really great programs, others do not. Look into the programs and classes that are available for your student and decide for yourself what is best.
But you should know that you have options.
Please be sure to share this with any parent or guardian of a special needs child. Many people don’t know that this option exists.
